OUR JOURNEY THROUGH THE YEARS
From our roots in 1932 to today’s trusted Filipino kitchen partner.
The Foundation
From its humble beginnings in 1921, Mr. Ching Ban Lee, a visionary leader of the Ching Leng Group, established the foundation for the prestigious Cheng Ban Yek & Co., Inc. The journey began as a family-owned grocery located at Muelle de Binondo Street, Binondo, Manila. This modest merchant served as the precursor to what would become one of the Philippines' most respected business institutions.
1921

Birth of a Household Name
In 1932, Mr. Ching Ban Lee, with some family members and friends, pioneered the local cooking oil manufacturing industry with the launch of its flagship brand, BAGUIO OIL. By introducing Baguio Pure Coconut Oil to the market, the firm became the nation's first Filipino-owned cooking oil manufacturer - a pioneer in bringing local quality to Filipino kitchens.
1932
Incorporation & Growth
In 1953, International Oil Factory was formally incorporated under Cheng Ban Yek & Co., Inc., signifying its growth and strengthened position in the local oil manufacturing industry.
1953
A National Icon
In 1962, Baguio Oil aired its first television commercial featuring the memorable tagline "Order ni Mrs.". This pioneering campaign marked the brand's entry into broadcast media and helped it capture a dominant market share, firmly establishing Baguio Oil as a premium and trusted household name.
1962

Healthier Options
Responding to evolving consumer preferences, Baguio Corn Oil was introduced in July 1999 to meet the growing demand for healthier cooking oil alternatives. Carefully refined to ensure purity and quality, it provided health-conscious Filipino families with an option beyond traditional coconut and palm oils.
1999
Distribution Partnership
In 2002, Cheng Ban Yek & Co., Inc. handled the nationwide distribution of Candyman candies, namely: White Rabbit, Kendi Mint, Viva Caramel and 7 other candy brands.
2002

Heart-Healthy Choice
In May 2006, the company launched Baguio Canola Oil, offering a heart-friendly option rich in unsaturated fats. Made from premium canola seeds and refined to maintain purity, it became a versatile choice for everyday cooking and baking.
2006
Premium Expansion
The product portfolio expanded further in July 2009 with the introduction of Baguio Premium Palm Oil, a premium palm olein designed for the premium segment. This innovation enabled the brand to serve a broader market while upholding its long-standing commitment to quality and trust.
